THE ORIGIN of Topokki was a royal dish that serves to the King for celebrating first month of the year in Joseon dynasty. After Korea war in 1950s, topokki was introduced to the masses. This chewy rice cakes drenched with red spicy gravy and was a popular school lunch for the students back then. It brings back feelings of nostalgia and became popular street food for the Koreans.
